Summary: I came to the beach to be alone. But there's something about this stranger I can't figure out; something mysterious. Something is drawing me to him.
Another concert successfully performed, another crowd awed by Kyo’s vocals and inhuman stage presence, another memory added to the internal Tour Book. The after party had been a success as well. There was good food, good drinks, and good-old German hospitality. It had all been worthwhile, like it always was, but the night was coming to an end with nothing to look forward to in the morning other than traveling. Die headed to his hotel room in silence. It was the same hotel they had stayed in the last tour so he knew his way around. Kyo had headed to bed early that night, clearly feeling under the weather. Kaoru and their manager suspected it must have been due to the traveling and change in atmosphere. Shinya had turned in early as well for unknown reasons, leaving Kaoru and Toshiya to please the crowd by themselves. But the other guitarist was sure the bassist would be in his hotel room sooner than later to cheer up his mopey vocalist.
All Die wanted to do now was relax and go to sleep, with a warm body beside him and the comforting smell of strawberry shampoo under his nose. When the brunette opened the door to his room he was surprised to find one of the lights on. He had expected the room to be in complete darkness and his room mate fast asleep. Instead he saw the slender man standing by the large window and looking out at the picturesque city. Die must have opened the door quietly enough for the younger not to hear him. “Hey. I thought you’d be in bed,” he said gently.
The drummer looked at him and shook his head, turning back to the window with a deep sigh. “I took a bath…read some of my book…”
“How long have you been standing there?” Die asked. He pulled out his suitcase for his night clothes. The guitarist looked up briefly to see the auburn shrug his shoulders in reply as he changed. “How’s Kyo doing?”
“He has a 24-hour bug. And a nasty headache to go with it. But I had him eat something anyway with the medicine I gave him,” Shinya replied, running a hand through his hair.
“Toshiya will take good care of him so there’s nothing to worry about…” the elder said as he folded his clothes back in his suitcase. The drummer hummed in acknowledgement from his place at the window. Die noticed how detached the other was and looked at him in concern. Shinya was as quiet and distant as he usually was but, somehow, it seemed like he was far away from everything –and everyone. The guitarist looked the slim man over carefully. He was so thin it made Die wonder if he fed himself when none of the others were around. The moonlight from the open window made the drummer look transparent…
Shinya pulled back from his thoughts when he felt a pair of toned arms wrap around his waist. He looked questioningly at the brunette as he lay his chin against the drummer’s frail shoulder. The elder looked back at him through half-lidded eyes. “Die?” Shinya asked, wondering what was going on.
The guitarist looked at him in silence, drinking in the man’s beautiful features, relishing in the familiar body heat. Shinya looked back at him expectantly, waiting for him to say something but turned back to the window when he didn’t. Die watched as the city lights reflected themselves in the younger’s eyes. They seemed to dance every time the brown orbs moved to focus on something else. Shinya just seemed completely caught up in his own world. “Sometimes I feel like you’re going to disappear,” Die whispered. The drummer’s eyes snapped to him, wide with shock from his words. “Especially on nights like this when you go into your own head because it seems like you’ve left the entire world behind. Left me behind…” the brunette admitted. He closed his eyes and buried his face in the crook of Shinya’s neck. The younger thought about what he had said. He could feel Die’s arms tighten their hold on him, as if he needed physical proof Shinya was still there with him, warm and alive.
Shinya blushed slightly as he placed his own arms on top Die’s. The brunette lifted his head to look at the younger. The auburn haired man gave a warm smile and lay a soft kiss on his forehead. “I’m not going to disappear, Daisuke. I won’t leave you behind, either; not even after DIR EN GREY,” he assured the elder, giving one of his hands a gentle squeeze.
Die gave a grateful smile at his words. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the drummer’s use of his real name. Gently the brunette turned Shinya around in his arms, almost able to see the younger blush as he leaned down to press their mouths together. Shinya’s kisses were soft and tender, addicting because of how sweet they were, and one of the many reasons Die would have a hard time leaving him. “Come on,” he said softly and pulled away. The guitarist went to one of the beds and paused upon climbing onto it when he noticed the other man still at the window. “Aren’t you coming to bed?” he quirked.
Shinya smiled and hummed in reply. He took one last look of the beautiful city before closing the curtains. By the time he had reached the bed Die had crawled under the covers on his side. Shinya turned off the light and crawled in beside the guitarist. The auburn chuckled as the brunette pulled the covers over him before bringing his thin body closer. He welcomed the closeness with a content sigh, resting his head under Die’s chin and wrapping his own arms around the elder’s warm chest. His eyes closed as sleep took him out of the conscious world. Die could soon hear the soft sound of Shinya’s deep breathing beneath him.
This was what he wanted: The man he loved in his arms when the two had a moment to themselves during their crazy schedule. He wanted the younger beside him for the rest of his life so he could always have these moments with Shinya. Always wanted his love where he could reach it. Because, with Shinya, there was nothing to return to after all the stage lights had gone out.
